31-Day Challenge Post #8: A Cautionary Tale

We've been trying quite unsuccessfully to work up the energy to finish the work in the master bathroom. It's been over a month since the fixtures were installed but there are items that need attention before the bathroom is actually ready for use. We thought we'd ease into the "to do" list by attaching the pulls to the vanity's drawers and doors.
Seems simple enough!
First, Scott used a piece of tape to mark where to drill holes.
Then, he used his little drill to drill the drill holes like they needed to be drilled!
I purchased the knobs at Ikea way back in September when Amy B. and I went to the Twin Cities for "A Prairie Home Companion." That seems like forever ago!
These shiny chrome rectangles (I think they're squares . . . Scott disagrees) coordinate beautifully with the Kohler Margaux faucet.
Plus, the pack of two cost less than $5. The matching Margaux knobs cost $14 each. (Sorry, but I just couldn't justify spending that much on drawer pulls!)

This is where the "cautionary" part of the tale begins ...

When you buy drawer pulls manufactured in China for a Swedish retailer, then try and use them in custom cabinetry made in Omaha, the screws that came in the package are probably going to be too short. Then, when you buy a big box of longer screws at your local big box retailer, the pitch of the screw is different from that of the threads inside the pull which makes it impossible to fasten. This leads to a very grumpy homeowner who probably now has to go to the specialty hardware supplier and spend $25 on screws to fasten the $2 drawer pulls!

There is a sunny end to the story . . .

The cabinet doors only have one thickness of wood so the screws that came with the pulls worked! Yay!
Not a bad start, after all!

Stay Tuned for Our Next Adventure!
